Year of the Metal Rat 2020 Lantern ٩(^ᴗ^)۶ Lunar New Year Festival
This video shares the creation of the communal Year of the Metal Rat 2020 Lantern at Lunar New Year Festival in Boorloo (Perth) on the lands of the Whadjuk people of the Bibbulmun nation [-O-].
At the festival, artist Gabby Loo hosted a free casual workshop where attendees were invited to communally decorate and colour in the lantern design. Many families and children contributed to this proud lantern throughout the day. On the lantern's design there are multiple references to our local bio-region's plants and animals, the metal rat zodiac, intercultural solidarity, Lunar New Year cultural foods and motifs. You may also spot a big pop-culture rat reference in there too (hint: it's little chef)!
This festival and workshop was supported by Town of Vincent, City of Perth, Northbridge Common and Chung Wah Association.
